JA' TO' MA'AD: Bidayuh's Cultural Twist in Typography
Project type
Motion Graphics, Typography
Date
Aug 2023
A traditional house is more than just a place to live; it is also the carrier and soul of a people's culture.
Baruk, the heart of Sarawak's Bidayuh ethnic communities, is more than just a house made of wood bark and rattan; it embodies their rich heritage. Historically, Baruk was a sanctuary for social and political gatherings, a testament to the unity of each Bidayuh community.
As the tides of time bring forth change and new ideologies emerge, the shift from traditional houses to modern communities has begun to erode the Baruk's significance. It's no longer the primary core that once bound these communities together.
Yet, one can never forget their roots, no matter how life evolves.
Baruk is an important spiritual connection that ties all the Bidayuh together. Hoping to show the beauty of Bidayuh culture to a wider audience, this design strives to rekindle memories of the cherished places they once called home, and to underscore the vital importance of preserving traditional architecture and its cultural legacy, ensuring it's not lost in the sands of time.
